We are pleased to introduce Lenny. AKC registered name is ZH~Zodiac's After School Special. He was born March 8, 2007 to our Diadem and Chesney. We made the decision to donate Lenny to Paws With A Cause. Paws trains assistance dogs for persons with disabilities. Myself, working the medical field with clients with disabilities, I watched their daily struggles with things we sometimes take for granted in our lives. With my devotion to my clients, along with my passion to my family of cavaliers, I began working with the dogs to challenge their intelligence. With their endless love, eagerness to please, and little people qualities, I was amazed at what they were capable of achieving. Working with my clients and teaching my dogs, gave me a personal interest in wanting to help someone achieve their goals of independence. Paws offers the highest levels of training, along with target goals to teach the dogs what they need to know and prepare them for their new owners. Our hopes and goals are, that Lenny will succeed with his training and live up to his potential in the service world. We would like the Cavalier breed to help bring awareness to the needs of persons with disabilities, and become part of the service world. Beyond their beautiful faces and warm tender hearts, this would truly make them man's best friend.. Our sincere thanks to Paws for allowing us to remain in contact with Lenny's raiser family and give him his AKC registered name. But most of all, our deepest appreciation to Ken, Ellen, and their family. All of their hard work in training and raising Lenny, getting him ready to come back to Paws headquarters for his formal training. Thank you for sharing your time. The many emails, full of wonderful things about Lenny and how he is progressing and all of the beautiful pictures. It has truly been a delight with each and every one we have received.

Ellen has shared some information about Lenny and his life with his foster family. We would like to share it with you..
Lenny's first Christmas..2007
Lenny is a Paws With A Cause foster puppy. As his foster family, we provide a loving home, basic obedience training, and socialization experiences until Lenny is ready to return to Paws headquarters at about 14-16 months of age. We attend regular PAWS classes with Lenny to work on obedience skills such as sit, down, stay, under, name recalls, heeling and greetings. We take Lenny with us almost everywhere we go including stores, restaurants, church, movie theaters, concerts, and to school, where he is classroom pet. We also do presentations with Lenny to make others aware of PAWS and their mission. PAWS trains assistance dogs for people with mobility challenges, seizure response dogs and hearing ear dogs. Because of his size, Lenny will become a hearing ear dog. He will be trained to alert his deaf client to sounds in the environment such as his/her name being called, the door bell, the telephone ringing, the smoke detector, the baby crying, the alarm clock, etc.. At PAWS headquarters, Lenny will learn to get his clients attention and then lead his client to the source of the sound. This will allow the client to live a more independent life. So far, Lenny is doing well. He has become a part of our family. Lenny enjoys putting on his foster puppy cape and going out into the community. Lenny gets along with everyone he meets. He has learned to sit on command. He is working on laying down on command, staying in a sit or down when asked, and heeling on leash. Lenny also enjoys playing with his puppy toys and long afternoon naps. Perhaps, he even dreams about one day becoming a real PAWS With A Cause service dog...

Lenny's first Christmas..2007
March 15th, 08 was a very special day for us. We had the pleasure of having our first visit with Lenny since placing him with Paws. It was so exciting to see how beautiful and well trained he was. All of the love, hard work and devotion to his training came shinning through. But after a day of showing us what he had learned and was capable of, we got to take off his Paws cape and take a Cavalier kiss and cuddle break...Thank you Lenny, Ken, and Ellen for a wonderful visit..
Someone's sleeping in my bed..
Watching one of his favorite T.V. programs..The dog show...
Lenny is now 1 year old. He is almost full grown and his silky coat is becoming longer and fuller. His beautiful long feathering is coming in. He is a handsome dog with very expressive eyes. Lenny continues to work hard on his goal of becoming a hearing ear dog for Paws With a Cause. Lenny responds to a number of commands including sit, down, stay, under, heel, kennel, leave it, and come. He is curious about sounds in his environment. Lenny continues to help with Paws presentations spreading the word about assistance dogs and the important work they do. Lenny has just received his paperwork and should be returning to Paws national headquarters in Wayland, Michigan to continue his training. He will be greatly missed by my family and children in my preschool class of deaf and hard of hearing students. But Lenny has an important job to do and must move on..
